Welcome to North Jersey Judo specializing in Martial Arts and Fitness

What is Judo?

Judo is a grappling martial art similar to jiu-jitsu, but does NOT involve punching or kicking.  Judo places emphasis on throws, pins, and submission holds such as strangles (+13 yrs only) and arm locks (+17 years only).  From a standing position involves techniques that allow you to lift and throw you or opponents onto their backs.  On the ground, it includes techniques that allow you to pin opponents down to the ground, control them and apply various choke holds or joint locks until submission.

North Jersey Judo ended the 2009 tournament season with four competitors placing at the North East Judo Championship.

Carson Wells (Team North Jersey Judo) placed 2nd with one win and one lose in his division.  This was Carson’s first Judo tournament.  Carson is also an avid wrestler for Pequannock.

Jason Burklow (Team North Jersey Judo) placed 2nd also with one win and 1 lost in his division.  Jason comes from a wrestling family and has used moves from Judo to cross train for wrestling.  Like Carson he wrestles for Pequannock.

Ramon Hernandez Jr. (Team North Jersey Judo) placed 3rd in his division.  Ramon Jr. had 2 wins and 1 lost in his division.  Ramon Jr. does Judo all year round and also plays competitive soccer.

Tim Burklow (Team North Jersey Judo) placed 2nd in an experienced division.  Tim also heads the Pequannock Youth Wrestling and is a Pequannock Valley Rotarian.

Notes From Coach: North Jersey Judo competitors did well during this outing and through out the year.  Look for club to continue to be active on the tournament level in 2010.
