What is Judo? |
|
Judo is a grappling martial art similar to jiu-jitsu, but does NOT involve punching or kicking. Judo places emphasis on throws, pins, and submission holds such as strangles (+13 yrs only) and arm locks (+17 years only). From a standing position involves techniques that allow you to lift and throw you or opponents onto their backs. On the ground, it includes techniques that allow you to pin opponents down to the ground, control them and apply various choke holds or joint locks until submission. |

| For Immediate Release March 22, 2008 Contact: Ramon Hernandez 201-206-2705 ramon@northjerseyjudo.com Today a 3 hour grappling clinic was held at North Jersey Judo using David Ellis as the clinician. David pretty much did a good job of mystifying everyone who attended. We had Judo players from as far south as Virginia attend and we also had grapplers from other grappling back grounds (BJJ) in the house as well to take advantage of David’s extensive knowledge in the ground work. | | Testimonials from Head Instructor @ Team North Jersey Judo: David is without a doubt one of the better grappling fighter in the Judo National level. He has managed to learn how to become flexible and open minded with his body movement to gain the advantage on the ground or on to the ground from a standing throw. The skills and experience he shared with us tonight only scratches the surface on all the skills David has accumulated through his years in Judo and grappling training. I can’t wait to have him back for another clinic. Ramon Hernandez 2nd Degree Judo Black Belt Head Instructor North Jersey Judo | | Testimonials from other grapplers who attended the clinic: The David Ellis clinic was nothing short of phenomenal. I was simply amazed right from the start, where David integrated the end of the warm up session of back stretches and backward rolls right into the first of many escapes he demonstrated that evening, some of which I would not have thought possible or practical until David demonstrated firsthand. David not only took the time to break down each technique but he included precise details to ensure that you are not only maximizing pressure and constriction on your opponent, but also included steps to show how to conserve your own oxygen and blood flow. I am certain that integrating just some of the techniques I learned will help my ground game take a quantum leap forward. David’s style of instruction was fun and upbeat and the clinic was very enjoyable and extremely valuable. A bargain for the price tag, please sign me up now for the next clinic!!! Ken Carmichael Pompton Plains, NJ | | Sensei Ramon, Thanks for hosting the groundwork seminar! I traveled from Virginia with Daniel Ray Carol for the event and we both enjoyed it and discussed the techniques on the trip home. I particularly enjoyed the relaxed and safe atmosphere you and your Judo Club have there. I also felt welcomed and enjoyed the training and randori during my visit. We hope to visit again sometime in the near future for any new events. I believe other judo aficionados from Charlottesville would enjoy visiting as well! Thanks again, Mick Watson Charlottesville, VA | | | Dear Sensei, Thanks for including me in this clinic with David Ellis. I enjoyed my self and learned a lot. Hope to transition this into my Judo and Wrestling. Jimmy Otten Wayne, NJ | | | |
